A personal, low-power hotspot is a combination of hardware, firmware, and software that enables a ham with internet connectivity to link directly to digital voice (DV) systems around the world. Hotspots can link to DMR, P25, and NXDN talkgroups; D-STAR reflectors; YSF rooms; and so on. Basically, hotspots act as your own personal digital voice KB9MWR Ham Member QRZ Page. He begins with a review of the current FreeDV system for HF Digital Voice. The new VHF stuff starts about 5 minutes in. At about 12 minutes you'll hear the most amazing comparison of FM and DV I've ever heard. The FM is too noisy to understand. The DV is solid. It turns the typical FM/DV comparison on its head. DV streams from the S780 as received by a normal FM receiver (using the 9k6 port). We can then analyse the stream. In general, I do like the specification documents created by the ETSI.
